Smarter document checks for Smart feedback API

We’ve introduced hygiene checks to make Smart feedback more reliable and accurate. With this update, the API will no longer accept documents that cannot be processed successfully. Instead, it will return a clear bad request response if the uploaded file doesn’t meet acceptance criteria.

What this means for you

To ensure smooth processing, please avoid submitting documents with the following issues:

  • Missing or multiple issuers – the source/issuer name must be clearly visible and singular.

  • Invalid document type – only supported formats like bank statements or utility bills will be processed. Ambiguous data documents, chat/email screenshots, and mailing envelopes are not supported.

  • Cropped documents – avoid uploads where critical content is cut off.

  • Steep camera angles – for image uploads, documents should be captured from a straight, upright angle (not tilted more than ~20°).

  • Blurred documents – files exceeding the blur threshold will be rejected to ensure clarity and accuracy.

These checks help reduce errors and ensure only clear, valid, and processable documents enter the verification flow—making results more reliable for you and your customers.
